McObject Advances to Win eg3.com ‘Reader’s Choice’ Award
September 23, 2008 — eXtremeDB™ Kernel Mode (KM) from McObject®, the first-ever embedded database system designed for deployment in the operating system kernel, has won the top prize – the Reader’s Choice award – in eg3.com‘s competition to choose the most exciting technology introduced in the first half of 2008.
Previously, eg3.com’s editors had chosen eXtremeDB-KM for an Editor’s Choice award for Embedded Software (see the press release). In September, hundreds of engineers and others participating in eg3.com’s on-line polling chose McObject’s kernel mode embedded database system from a field of competing new software products as the most innovative and promising technology.
Released in February of this year, eXtremeDB-KM enables kernel-based application logic—such as the “rules database” of access control systems—to leverage database sorting, storage and retrieval capabilities without performance-draining context switches. The in-memory eXtremeDB-KM provides features including transaction processing, querying using multiple index types, multi-threaded data access, a flexible database API, and a high-level data definition language.
“McObject thanks the eg3.com community for recognizing eXtremeDB Kernel Mode with this honor, which also recognizes the value of commercial, off-the-shelf embedded database technology in developing embedded software with advanced capabilities,” Graves said. “We hope this sparks interest so that more developers will explore how adding an embedded database system such as eXtremeDB to their project can save time and money, and result in a better product.”
