McObject Expands in China with Experienced Embedded Database Team
September 17, 2008 — McObject®, developer of the eXtremeDB™ real-time database system, has significantly expanded in China by adding a team in Beijing with deep experience in embedded database systems, headed by a new vice president with a winning track record in penetrating China’s fast-growing telecommunications, energy, transportation, defense and other vital real-time and embedded software market segments.
Husen Tu stated his goal as McObject’s new VP for Asia – Pacific as “capitalizing on eXtremeDB’s proven performance and efficiency advantages to build on its success as the most powerful database solution for embedded systems in this market, and driving growth by leveraging McObject’s prior achievements in enabling real-time enterprise systems in China, in fields including financial trading and banking.”
“On reviewing McObject’s technology, it is clear that eXtremeDB’s streamlined architecture gives it the speed, small code footprint and overall cost-effectiveness that can consolidate the now-fragmented embedded database software field in China. McObject’s excellent references, and flexibility and agility as a company, position it to take advantage of emerging opportunities quickly in order to achieve fast growth,” Tu said.
Tu said that based on his long experience working with telcos, energy producers, manufacturers and other mission critical concerns, McObject’s eXtremeDB High Availability edition will be a major contributor to success in China. “eXtremeDB-HA’s long list of successful deployments worldwide will open doors at many companies that seek fault-tolerant, real-time database solutions,” he said.
McObject is already established in greater China and counts Dalian Commodity Exchange and Bank of China, as well as major industrial concerns and electrical power utilities, among its customers there. Adding Husen Tu as VP, along with his staff, “highlights our increased focus on this market, and adds critical mass and expertise to accelerate growth,” Chris Mureen, McObject chief operating officer, said.
Tu’s background includes leading embedded database vendor Solid Information Technology’s entry into China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. As Solid’s general manager, he built market share and revenue by localizing and implementing company marketing and sales initiatives, securing distribution by top real-time operating system (RTOS) resellers, and engaging with China’s major telecom, electrical power, mobile communications and defense-related companies. Tu also spearheaded the company’s successful entry into real-time enterprise software markets. Solid Information Technology was acquired by IBM in 2008.
Before that, as general manager of Siemens Fujitsu Company in China, Tu worked closely with telecommunications infrastructure companies to expand the use of Siemens Fujitsu’s clustering and high availability software solutions, resulting in a $2.6 million contract with China’s largest telecom equipment provider, among other new business. Tu oversaw all aspects of the sales process, identified and recruited business partners, and helped develop a support structure that ensured high customer satisfaction.
In joining McObject, Tu brings a team of marketing and software engineering experts in Beijing who share his background in embedded databases and real-time software. This staff will assist in the communications, partnership, field engineering and support tasks that are critical to build market share in China for McObject’s eXtremeDB product family and for its Perst open source, object-oriented embedded database for Java and .NET.
“The rapid growth in China’s economy is among the top news stories of our time. By adding Husen Tu and his team in Beijing, McObject has positioned itself to participate fully in this exciting market and to bring the eXtremeDB database system’s proven benefits to more developers in the country’s manufacturing, telecommunications, finance and other technology sectors. We are very glad to welcome our new colleagues in Beijing,” Mureen said.
About eXtremeDB
With eXtremeDB, McObject offers a small footprint, highly portable embedded database management system that meets the unique performance requirements and resource constraints of real-time systems in fields including telecommunications, industrial control and consumer electronics. eXtremeDB provides critical data management features—including transactions, concurrent access, High Availability and a high-level data definition language—while maintaining a minimal code footprint. Developed originally as an in-memory database system (IMDS), eXtremeDB delivers the real-time responsiveness demanded in many application categories that cannot tolerate the response latency of on-disk database systems.
eXtremeDB also provides sophisticated development capabilities, such as support for complex data and varied query methods, a powerful debugging environment including a self-diagnostic API that catches a wide range of common programming errors before they slip into runtime code, and optional XML and SQL interfaces.
