McObject Teams with Wind River for Main Memory Data Management in Intelligent, Connected Devices
November 12, 2001 — McObject LLC, developer of the eXtremeDB™ small-footprint, main memory database, has launched a partnership with Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND), confirming McObject’s commitment to the most widely used real-time development technology. In addition to making eXtremeDB available for use with Wind River’s VxWorks® real-time operating system (RTOS) and Tornado® integrated development environment (IDE), McObject has joined the WindLink™ Partner Program and will work with Wind River in a variety of worldwide marketing initiatives.
McObject built the eXtremeDB database from scratch to meet the unique performance requirements and resource constraints of intelligent, connected devices. Wind River’s Tornado IDE and VxWorks RTOS are the premier software building blocks in target markets including set-top boxes, networking and communications equipment, industrial control, and consumer devices.
“Wind River and McObject share the goal of providing technology to create state-of-the-art connected smart devices, while minimizing development and deployment costs. In eXtremeDB, developers will find a main-memory data management product with sophistication and reliability. We welcome McObject as a WindLink partner,” said Caroline Yao, director of partner solutions at Wind River.
“Device-based applications are reaching a level of complexity where a proven database greatly improves scalability and performance, while reducing time-to-market. When combined with Tornado and VxWorks, eXtremeDB offers the ideal growth foundation for devices across a wide range of industries,” McObject President and CEO Steve Graves said.
With a tiny footprint of 100K or less, eXtremeDB spares RAM and CPU resources while delivering critical data management features, including coordination between threads, fast and flexible navigation, and assured data integrity. eXtremeDB accelerates processing by storing and working with data in main memory, removing RAM-disk and file system dependence as well as latency from data transfer. eXtremeDB stores data in the form native to the host language, eliminating translation overhead.
