McObject and SYSGO Join Proven In-memory Database With Powerful Embedded Linux
March 8, 2004 — McObject, developer of the eXtremeDB in-memory embedded database, has teamed with German embedded systems innovator SYSGO to offer a feature-rich, cost-efficient development package for embedded Linux applications.
The companies will bundle a development copy of McObject’s eXtremeDB-XML Shared Memory Edition for x86 targets, including reference applications, with SYSGO’s ELinOS Basic Toolbox for embedded Linux. In this single package, developers have the tools—including graphical configuration environment, embedded Linux distribution with real-time extensions, a proven, XML-enabled real-time database and much more—to build industrial-grade, data-intensive embedded Linux software systems.
The bundle is priced at US$1,175.00. In addition, the companies announced they will include eXtremeDB evaluation software with the ELinOS Development Kit, which offers additional advanced features for embedded Linux development.
The eXtremeDB-ELinOS bundle builds on both companies’ proven product development track records and their growing base of satisfied, often well-known customers.
With its graphic configuration tool ELK, ready-made boot loaders and cross development environments for all current CPUs, ELinOS promotes economical software for intelligent devices. ELinOS both reduces the resource requirements of Linux and extends its real-time capabilities, making this the logical starting point for industrial customers who are expanding their use of embedded Linux or using it for the first time.
SYSGO’s ELinOS customers include VDO Dayton for car infotainment, Rohde & Schwarz for its Protocol Tester, and Honeywell Building Automation.
With eXtremeDB, McObject offers a new type of database to meet the unique performance requirements and resource constraints of intelligent, connected devices. With a footprint of 100K or less, eXtremeDB spares RAM and CPU resources while delivering critical data management features. As an all-in-memory database with a streamlined architecture, eXtremeDB delivers instant responsiveness that complements SYSGO’s real-time Linux.
And like ELinOS, eXtremeDB provides sophisticated developer tools. Features include support for varied data and query types, and a powerful debugging environment with a self-diagnostic API that catches a wide range of common programming errors before they slip into runtime code. McObject customers include Genesis Microchip, which uses eXtremeDB in digital TV embedded software, and Boeing, which recently chose eXtremeDB High Availability for R&D-stage enhancements to its AH-64D Apache Longbow combat helicopter.
“McObject is pleased to be working with SYSGO to add reliable, real-time data management to the solid ELinOS embedded application development foundation,” said Steve Graves, McObject co-founder and CEO. “Both companies believe in making developers’ lives easier and are committed to helping customers create groundbreaking embedded software while accelerating time-to-market. These shared traits bode well for our future successful working relationship.”
“To add McObject’s eXtremeDB is another building block for our powerful embedded Linux development environment ELinOS,” Knut Degen, CEO of SYSGO, said. “ELinOS provides a full IDE and has all the tools on board to help developers to easily build their embedded devices.”
