McObject’s Database Helps Push Communication Boundaries with Microsoft Windows XP Embedded in IP-based Trading Turret
IP Trade has chosen McObject’s eXtremeDB™ in-memory embedded database for real-time data management in its Profile trading turret, which integrates voice, data, video, collaboration, voice-to-text, contact management and other features into an IP-based phone system that lends a technological edge in fast-paced, information-intensive securities trading.
Within the Profile turret device, McObject’s database runs on the Microsoft Windows XP Embedded operating system and Intel IA-32 and Intel 64 architecture. eXtremeDB manages end-user profiles that include large phone contact and shortcut lists, call history logs, security profiles and other data that must be accessed in real-time in order for users to trade competitively.
Integrating McObject’s eXtremeDB instead of developing real-time database code from scratch saved six programmer-months in developing the trading turret, Vincent Zander, head of development for IP Trade, said.
“eXtremeDB’s indexing capabilities, transactional support, and concurrent access control eliminated the difficult task of developing a data management layer to provide turret end-users with all required options to visualize and organize their trading environments,” Zander said. “Other built-in features, like support for internationalization, XML extensions, and an easy-to-use programming interface, make eXtremeDB a very valuable solution for rapidly developing complex applications for the embedded devices market.”
“Microsoft is proud to collaborate with partners such as McObject to broaden the capabilities and functionalities of sophisticated embedded devices, such as IP Trade’s Profile trading turret,” said Jane Gilson, director, Mobile and Embedded Devices Division, Microsoft Corp. “The ability for Windows XP Embedded to seamlessly integrate into familiar and existing Windows environments makes it an ideal platform for third-party developers to quickly create solutions that give their customers a competitive edge.”
IP Trade chose Microsoft Windows XP Embedded as the Profile trading turret’s embedded operating system because it offers durability and high performance, while supporting later expansion with rich applications. One specific advantage of Microsoft Windows XP Embedded is its support for USB to connect many optional devices, Zander said.
In addition, by using Windows XP Embedded in the trading turret, IP Trade expects to benefit from the wide support for Microsoft technology in banks and other financial institutions, IP Trade officials said.

About IP Trade
IP trade was founded in 2005 by a group of 4 senior engineers with a combined 40 years of experience in the telecom, IT and banking industries. Amid a global transition towards IP-based converged networks integrating data, voice and video, financial institutions were left with a missing link in the trading floor as, prior to IP Trade, no trading turrets were available in the market that didn’t require the use of a proprietary TDM voice switch. After recognising that ongoing deficiency, IP Trade was formed to specifically address these trading communication requirements. With their extensive experience in both IP Telephony and banking software applications, the founders decided to build the most reliable and most secure trading turrets, compatible with leading IP-PBXs. They immediately found the funding for the project from various banks and financial institutions interested in the outcome, together with venture capital firms and reputable private investors. IP Trade is a privately-held company. For more information see www.iptrade-networks.com.
