Reliable data management for medical systems

Small, reliable, fast and flexible.

eXtremeDB helps developers meet international regulatory standards

eXtremeDB was designed from the beginning for safety- and mission-critical systems, and protects against loss of database availability, safeguards data integrity, and is resistant to database corruption caused by application software defects.

eXtremeDB facilitates the development of medical device software that should be EN62304 compliant.

Encryption

eXtremeDB supports encryption for data at rest (AES) and for data in motion (SSL/TLS including support for WolfSSL and Mbed).

ACID-compliant transactions

ACID (Atomic, Consistent, Isolated and Durable) compliant transactions to safeguard data integrity by guaranteeing that interdependent operations either complete together or are cancelled together.

Detect unauthorized tampering

eXtremeDB offers advanced debugging and corruption prevention features and cyclic redundancy check to detect unauthorized tampering of the database contents (e.g. without going through the eXtremeDB run-time).

Consistency checks

Debug runtime libraries internally implement many verification traps and various consistency checks to ensure that the database runtime is being used in the way intended.

Interoperability

eXtremeDB offers APIs for many programming languages that can be used together. It also offers native and SQL APIs that can be used together. Applications on different platforms, e.g. Windows/x86 and Linux/ARM, can interoperate on the same database.

High Availability

eXtremeDB HA offers 99.999% High Availability uptime to ensure continuous database operation even in the face of hardware or software failure.

Type-safe API

eXtremeDB’s type-safe C API eliminates database corruption caused by erroneous use of void pointers. Data typing errors are caught very early, when they’re least expensive to remediate: at compile-time.

^

Segregation

eXtremeDB is an ‘embedded database’, meaning that it is compiled and linked (embedded) with your application. As such, it participates in the partitioning scheme of the over-arching application.

Built-in security

eXtremeDB offers built-in data security at rest and in transit. eXtremeDB/rt protects mission critical systems by providing data management features to hard real-time systems that cannot be connected.

eXtremeDB Active Replication Fabric™ mitigates connectivity issues

The Active Replication Fabric allows device-based applications to collect data, which is then automatically transmitted when connected. Likewise, they also allow replicating server-side data to IoT devices; a common task for new device configuration and provisioning. Data flow is fully automated through the Active Replication Fabric allowing developers to mitigate or even solve IoT connectivity issues.

^

The Active Replication Fabric APIs allow replication upstream from edge to gateway to server, and downstream from server to edge devices for bidirectional replication.

eXtremeDB offers low-level network compression as well as run-length encoding (RLE) compression for columnar (time-series) data reducing storage space and improving speed to maximize functionality on limited bandwidth networks.

Optimized for sensor data processing

For time series processing, eXtremeDB implements columnar data layout for fields of type ‘sequence’. Sequences can be combined to form a time series, ideal for working with data from sensors. If faster processing is important, eXtremeDB has regularly set, then broken, its own speed records.

When used in hard real-time mission-critical systems, eXtremeDB/rt supports shared data in Asymmetric Multiprocessing (AMP) configurations.

A flexible database for embedded and client/server

^

Process analytics on the A cores

^

eXtremeDB offers offers a rich library of over 150 vector-based statistical functions for in-database analytics.

^

eXtremeDB’s fast, native C/C++ API interoperates fully with its SQL API. The native interface is ideal for time-sensitive operations, while the SQL API (with its JDBC & ODBC support) permits higher level access and interfacing with external systems. eXtremeDB Data Relay enables open, highly selective replication between a system’s low latency database and external systems such as enterprise DBMSs.

Process analytics on the M cores

^

The eXtremeDB/rt pioneering design preserves the temporal validity of data and enforces predictable execution of critical data transactions. AMP architecture’s ability to support real-time operations on the M-core and analytics on the A-core is uniquely suited to mixed-criticality systems.

The flexibility of platform independence

The eXtremeDB platform independent database was created to be a powerful tool for the professional developer.

^

eXtremeDB was designed and implemented to be highly portable, and can operate without an operating system. It can also operate without a file system.

^

eXtremeDB runs predictably on dozens of hardware architectures and operating systems.  Learn how (opens in a new tab) in our online documentation.
